Assistant Prof. Dr. Hakan Berkil

He was born in Denizli in 1970. After completing his secondary and high school education at Aydın Efeler High School, he started his education at Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1988. After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine in 1994, he did his compulsory service in Kütahya province for 2 years. He started his Medical Genetics specialization training at Eskişehir Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Genetics in 1997 and completed it in 2000. After specialization, he continued to work in the same department until May 2001. He worked at Advanced Technologies Laboratory (ATL-Paris) for 6 months for molecular genetics training.

Between 2001 and 2004, he served as Director during the establishment of Memorial Hospital Genetic Diseases Diagnosis Center. During his studies here, he played an active role in the first studies conducted in Turkey on the identification of single gene diseases and tissue typing at the embryo stage. In 2004, he took on the task of establishing the Metropolitan Florence Nightingale Hospital Genetic Diseases Diagnosis Center and worked there as Director until 2009. Later, He founded Genetiks Genetic Diseases Diagnosis Center together with Dr. Jülide Caferler and Dr. Hakan Özön.

In his studies;  genetics, genetic counseling, cytogenetics and molecular cytogenetics and has been continuing his work in these areas for many years. He is also interested in the fields of infertility genetics, preimplantation genetic diagnosis, cancer genetics and sports genetics. In 2015, together with Altan ÖZTEPE, he established the Genetic Trainer and Genetic Passport system, which is the first in the world, in our country.

In 2016, he took part in the establishment of the Department of Medical Genetics within Okan University Faculty of Medicine and resigned from this position in 2018. He is currently actively working at Genetiks Genetic Diseases Evaluation Center.

He has more than 10 international articles and made more than 70 domestic and international papers between 1998-2016. He took part as an invited speaker in many congresses and symposiums. He is a member of the Medical Genetics Association, Turkish Gynecology and Obstetrics Association, Reproductive Health and Infertility Association and American Society of Clinical Oncology. His hobbies include; He is interested in music, cinema, books and collecting. He is married and has one child.
